▲24일  에티오피아 심장병 어린이 환자 5명이 부천세종병원, 한국늘사랑회, 한국전쟁참전국기념사업회의 초청으로 심장수술을 받기위해 한국을 찾았다. On the 24th, five Ethiopian children with heart disease visited Korea to receive heart surgery at the invitation of Bucheon Sejong Hospital, Korea Neutral Love Society, and Korean War Veterans Memorial Association.

한국전쟁참전국 기념사업회가 주최하는 ‘한국전쟁 참전 보은 프로그램’으로, 한국늘사랑회와 함께 6·25전쟁 74주년을 맞아 과거 우리나라를 위해 싸운 에티오피아 참전용사들의 노고에 보답하기 위한 행사이다, 

This is the ‘Korean War Veterans Repayment Program’ hosted by the Korean War Veterans Memorial Association, and is an event to repay the hard work of Ethiopian veterans who fought for our country in the past in commemoration of the 74th anniversary of the Korean War in conjunction with the Korean War Association.

 

에티오피아는 아프리카 유일의 한국전쟁 지상군 파견국이며, 총인원 3.518명이 참전해 121명이 전사하고 536명이 부상했으며 현재 에티오피아에 사는 생존 참전 용사는 62명이다. 참전 기간 중 부대원들은 월급을 모아 1953년 경기도 동두천에 '보화원'이란 이름의 보육원을 세운 뒤 전쟁고아들을 보살폈다.

Ethiopia is the only country in Africa to send ground troops to the Korean War, and a total of 3,518 people participated in the war, with 121 killed and 536 wounded. Currently, there are 62 surviving veterans living in Ethiopia. During the war, unit members saved their salaries and established an orphanage named 'Bohwawon' in Dongducheon, Gyeonggi-do in 1953, where they took care of war orphans.

이날 입국하는 어린이 환자 5명 중 1명은 참전용사 고(故) 타레켄 월대 아레가이(100)씨의 손녀 메흐릿 베즈아예후(8)양이다.

One of the five child patients entering the country that day was Mehrit Bezayehu (8), the granddaughter of the late Tareken Woldae Aregai (100), a war veteran.

 

 메흐릿 양은 선천성 심장병과 다운증후군 앓고 있으며 “캉뉴부대 선발대였던 할아버지는 한국의 겨울이 얼마나 추웠는지, 얼마나 어려운 전투에서 살아남았는지 얘기를 들려주곤 했다. 그런 한국에서 이런 기회를 줘 참으로 감사하다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

Ms. Mehrit suffers from congenital heart disease and Down syndrome. “My grandfather, who was a member of the advance guard of the Cangne unit, used to tell me stories about how cold winters were in Korea and how difficult battles he survived. “I am truly grateful that Korea gave me this opportunity,” she said.

에티오피아 1억2700만명 인구 중 심장병 의사는 전국에 4명 뿐이고, 심장수술이 가능한 병원은 수도 아디스아바바에 있는 국립 블랙라이언 심장센터 단 1곳이며, 참전용사 후손 중 심장병을 앓고 있는 어린이는 딱 2명이 있는데, 그중 1명과 일반 어린이 4명을 뽑았다고 한다.

Among the 127 million people in Ethiopia, there are only four cardiologist in the country, the only hospital that can perform heart surgery is the National Black Lion Heart Center in the capital Addis Ababa, and only two children among descendants of war veterans suffer from heart disease. It is said that one of them and four other children were selected.

이번 행사는 한국전쟁참전국기념사업회와 한국늘사랑회가 함께 기획했으며, 한국전쟁참전국기념사업회장 신광철씨는 “이번 행사는 과거 우리나라를 위해 싸운 참전용사들의 노고에 대한 보답일 뿐 아니라, 에티오피아 현지에서 참전용사들의 명예를 고양하는 의미가 있다”고 했다.

This event was jointly planned by the Korean War Veterans Memorial Association and the Korea Love Society, and Shin Gwang-cheol, president of the Korean War Veterans Memorial Association, said, “This event is not only a reward for the hard work of veterans who fought for our country in the past, but also participated in the war in Ethiopia. “It has the meaning of enhancing the honor of warriors.”

 

 이번 수술비 총액 2억5000만원은 부천세종병원에서, 체류비는 한국전챙참전국기념사업회에서 부담한다.
The total cost of this surgery, 250 million won, will be covered by Bucheon Sejong Hospital, and the lodging expenses will be covered by the Korean War Memorial Association.

어린이 환자 5명은 오는 26일~28일 중 수술 받고 내달 8일까지 병원에 입원할 계획이고, 퇴원 후 내달 28일까지 한국에 머무르며, 회복 후 에버랜드, 강원 속초 등 관광도 예정돼 있다. 이날 한국을 찾을 예정인 세나 데메(10)군은 “평소 축구를 좋아해 손흥민의 팬이었다. 특히 놀이공원에 가서 놀 생각에 기대된다”고 했다.

Five child patients are scheduled to undergo surgery between the 26th and 28th and be admitted to the hospital until the 8th of next month. After being discharged, they will stay in Korea until the 28th of next month. After recovery, they are scheduled to tour Everland, Sokcho, Gangwon, etc. Sena Deme (10), who is scheduled to visit Korea on this day, said, “I have always liked soccer and was a fan of Son Heung-min. “He is especially excited to go to the amusement park and play.”
